Seaford High School’s marching band will be featured on MSG Varsity’s “The Marching Bands” special airing Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, at 3 and 8 p.m. on Cablevision’s iO TV service, channel 14.
MSG Varsity created this special series to celebrate high school bands throughout the tri-state area and to capture a behind-the-scenes look at their performances and personalities.
The first two-hour episode of MSG Varsity’s “The Marching Bands” will celebrate the spirit and excitement of The 47th Annual Newsday Marching Band Festival by featuring highlights of band performances, crowd reactions and interviews with band leaders and members.
Whether it’s a drum major conducting a 300-piece marching band or a student pursuing a collegiate music scholarship, MSG Varsity is committed to sharing these inspiring stories.
Seaford High School’s marching band was one of 45 high school bands from Nassau and Suffolk Counties that participated in the 2009 Newsday Marching Band Festival at Hofstra University.
This festival is an annual fundraiser in which a portion of the ticket sales go to each of the participating high school bands as well as the Newsday Marching Grant program that assists Hofstra music students in their studies.
“We’re thrilled to be the first network to provide such extensive television coverage of this uniquely Long Island event,” observed MSG Varsity’s General Manager Theresa Chillianis.
“This episode of ‘The Marching Bands’ will capture the inspiring performances of thousands of local students, allowing their friends and family to share their passion about what they do. It’s especially exciting to present this special on Thanksgiving, when families are gathered together.”
“This Festival is a hallmark Long Island event that for 47 years has brought communities out to share in the work and pride of their schools and their students. Now through MSG Varsity, all of Long Island can share in this exciting event,” commented Deidra Parrish Williams, director of community and media relations for Newsday.
MSG Varsity’s “The Marching Bands” is produced by Ace Award-winning and Emmy-nominated producer Martin Ehrlich.
